Review: 2024 BMW XM Label Is Out for Tests

Introduction: A Glimpse Beyond Tradition

Everybody these days knows that the brand-new 2024 BMW XM Label is the German carmaker`s new toy on the block, an exquisite ride that defies all conventional norms with its outrageous M variants. This powerhouse SUV is an extreme car with the “Label” moniker, which stands for whopping power, the highest level of oppulence and exclusivity . In this article we will try to cover the Label`s exterior, interior and performance under the hood, and likely, we will be able to persuade you into buying this car or not.

The Evolution of the Name – From “Red Label” to “Label”

A Brief Tale of Name Transformation

The journey of the XM Label began with the name “Red Label ” paying homage to its red appearance package that was initially envisioned. However, as we now witness the Label in all its glory, the red accent package is now optional and BMW has simplified the name to “Label.” This intentional decision by BMW aligns with the essence of this M variant.

Exterior – Where Elegance Meets Performance

While you still have the option to add the red accent package, during our test drive we didn’t get a glimpse of the “Toronto Red” side trim. The distinctive “XM” badging remains intact, serving as an identifier for this Label variant. Notably in its production version, BMW has moved away from the bold red grille surround and opted for a refined and less controversial appearance.

Exterior and BMW Individual Paint Options

The XM Label stands out not only for its performance but also for offering an extensive range of over 50 different paint options under BMW Individual customization, at no extra cost. This allows drivers to personalize their rides according to their preferences. During our drive, we were truly captivated by the Sepia Metallic exterior showcasing the Label’s dedication to uniqueness and personal style.

Interior – Sophisticated Elegance or Bold Exuberance?

In contrast to the range of colors available at the exterior, the interior of the Label offers a more limited selection. The cabin is dominated by a Fiona Red/two-tone Full Merino Leather setup. However, some may not find this simplicity appealing if they prefer the upholstery options found in the non-Label versions. The red accents extend to vent trim pieces and even an “XM” logo on the center stack emphasizing its performance-oriented ambiance.

Performance Dynamics – Unleashing Power

Engine Power and Acceleration

The XM Label truly sets itself apart with its power output, thanks to a high-performance plug-in hybrid system. With a 738 horsepower and 738-pound feet of torque it outshines the XM model that offers 644 horses and 590 pound-feet of twist. This power boost is achieved through a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor, propelling the Label from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Which is quite a significant improvement over the standard XM`s time of 4.1 seconds.

The Driving Experience – A Harmonious Blend of Power and Control

When you’re behind the wheel, you’ll notice a boost in acceleration with the Label. However, it’s important to note that the driving experience goes beyond a second advantage in the 0 to 60 sprint. The initial surge from the motor provides an exhilarating launch, as the Label maintains impressive speed on the road. Thanks to its steel springs, anti-roll system, and electronically controlled shocks, this SUV weighing over 6,000 pounds surprises with its agility.

Electric Power and Efficiency

While power is where the Label truly shines, its efficiency matches that of the XM model. The plug-in hybrid powertrain allows for a range of 31 miles from its 29.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack. With ratings of 46 MPGe and 14 mpg combined, it offers versatility for both driving and highway cruising.

Comfortable Ride with Considerations for Noise Levels

However, it’s worth noting that there are some quirks to consider with the Label. The use of 23-inch wheels contributes to increased road noise inside the cabin. Opting for 22-inch wheels can slightly improve ride quality. Also, keep in mind that this vehicle prioritizes power and handling over a completely serene cruising experience.

The Question of Value

For buyers, the key consideration is whether the improvements of the Label version are worth the $26,000 compared to the standard XM. In terms of equipment, both models are quite similar. There are some distinctions in terms of acceleration and cosmetic features. One interesting aspect of the Label version is that it includes a BMW paint option, at no extra charge, which could help narrow down the price difference somewhat.

Final Verdict: Is It Worth Paying Extra?

As we could see in this article, the 2024 BMW XM Label is definitely and undeniably the pinnacle of the entire XM lineup with its distinctive appearance, relentless acceleration and outrageous power under the hood. It is a true statement and bold declaration of sophistication and power. However, if you are not that excited about this oppulent and extreme car, you can always choose the standard XM for a more pragmatic driving experience. So, the final verdict is yours to take.
