2017 G01 BMW X3 Rendered

The BMW X3 is one of those automobiles that has garnered a rather enthusiastic following, and the brand is preparing to release a new redesign shortly.

The BMW X3 has been a permanent fixture in the luxury crossover market segment since its inception back in 2003. Now in its third generation, the 2017 G01 BMW X3 is scheduled to adopt a new design, features, and enhancements that have not been seen in the outgoing model. This new rendering provides a glimpse into what is expected to be fixed in the redesign.

An Evolutionary Design Approach

From an overall perspective, it seems that there will not be a drastic change in the size and shape of the new X3. However, from the rendered images, it is evident that the designers have applied an evolutionary approach. The front end gets a more imposing twin-kidney grille, smarter headlamps with LED insertion, and a bolder front bumper. The profile remains familiar BMW and you can recognize a rising beltline, a Callista-like muscular wheel arches, and short front and rear overhangs. New trapezoidal exhaust tips are also introduced at the back part which gives a new look to the car.

The current X3 doesn’t appear to be a radical departure from its predecessor and BMW appears to have been conservative in the new model’s styling. In a way, it is fitting to heed the old saying, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ The current X3 is a handsome vehicle that has performed well within its segment and BMW probably did not believe in making drastic changes. However, those changes should make the new model look more updated than the current one, hence the name rendered.

Cabin Technology and Materials Enhancements

The visualization also offers a look at what lies within, and it is here that one would find the most recent BMW state-of-art technology and luxurious interior elements. Inside, the X3 will come with the iDrive 6 as a control system for audio, navigation, and other features, which will have better voice recognition and link with the user’s phone. Other self-protective technologies, such as lane departure assist and auto-emergency braking, will also be introduced to this crucial segment.

Better leather, real wood, and metal trim should make the X3 feel even more elegant and expensive—particularly if you upgrade to the xLine or the M Sport packages. Both will offer interior design solutions to meet various demands. In any case, we’d expect the materials and overall ambiance of the new X3’s interior to feel more premium than that of the older model.

Better Engine Features: Higher Horsepower and Great Torque

They had a guide for what would be under the new X3 hood, and that was one section that I was looking forward to. BMW also remains loyal to the idea of TwinPower turbocharged gas and diesel engines to achieve better results with increased efficiency. Expect new US models to receive the latest 2.0-liter four-cylinder that churns out about 248 horsepower. Reports that have done the rounds suggest that a new six-cylinder with over 300 horses could be on its way in the X3 M40i version.

Another possible unveiling could be a plug-in hybrid model, which would equip the X3 with a capable, though partial, electricity operation. This would make it even more efficient than the existing models and would make BMW’s most fuel-efficient crossover to date. It will be more interesting to wait for final powertrain figures once the new X3 goes for production later in the year.

My Take: The Strength Of A Package Gets Better

In my opinion, there is no need to do that because the current model of the X3 which is on the market, already provides one of the best feelings of driving enjoyment and premium class in its class. Following those strengths, the new model comes with new looks, a premium interior, cutting edge tech, and better powertrains. It looks destined to set the new benchmark even against rivals like Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Lexus RX.

When the new 2017 BMW X3 hits the BMW dealerships next year, I think it will bring to the table what it takes to sustain the SUV’s dominance. It presents a very attractive proposition in general for people who are buying a car with sporting intent for use as a family vehicle. The early glimpse of the new X3 rendering reveals the new generation of X3 in the making and I must say that I am not disappointed so far.
