BMW M 1000 RR, The Top Flight Racing Superbike in the Macau Grand Prix: The Supersport Exhibition
Once again the BMW M 1000 RR showed its worth by dominating the Guia Circuit, as seen with another all BMW podium at the 56th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. The participants never envisioned this weekend going the way it did. Torrential rain first brought about major delays in the program before the race on the small street track was eventually called off.
It was all BMW as the 56th edition of the storied Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix was finished with another all-BMW top three. The weekend, though, turned out much differently than they’d planned.
Torrential rain first caused major delays in the program and eventually brought the race on the small street track to a cancellation. As such, victory trophies went to the BMW M 1000 RR riders Davey Todd (GBR), Erno Kostamo (FIN) and Peter Hickman (GBR) in the top three qualifiers.
With a robust BMW lineup, the scene was set for an entertaining Macau weekend. At Team Principal Faye Ho’s home round, FHO Racing BMW Motorrad sent out Todd, Hickman, Macau record-holder Michael Rutter (GBR), and Craig Neve (GBR). Hickman (four) and Rutter (nine) have won 13 Macau games between them. The 2022 champion, Erno Kostamo of Finland, participated with Penz13 Racing’s Team 38 Motorsport.
They were forced to postpone going to the track until Saturday due to bad weather. Following a free practice session, BMW M 1000 RR riders secured the top four positions in qualifying, with Todd taking the lead over Kostamo, Hickman, and Rutter. The top three qualifiers received podium honors because racing was impossible due to heavy rain on Sunday morning. The prize for the quickest lap went to Todd as well.
As a lover of motorcycles, there is no race that can give you the adrenaline rush that the Macau Grand Prix does to its attendees. This is one of the oldest motorcycle races that has thrilled motorcyclists and enthusiasts from all over the world due to its unpredictability and difficult terrain. This year’s race featured a new fully faired superbike motorcycle from BMW: the M 1000 RR, thrilling the racing community. Thank God I had the chance to be present at the confrontation personally.
As for the Macau Grand Prix, it is one of the most dangerous races in the world, due to the narrow and quite complicated track that includes numerous turns, concrete barriers, and other barriers that would not really allow for a lot of mistakes. That is a race of the highest risk that, for a moment’s distraction, can lead to catastrophic outcomes. These are the circumstances under which the BMW M 1000 RR had to rise to the occasion in order to carve its niche out of the fiercely contested lot.
M 1000 RR: success thanks to the cooperation of BMW Motorrad and the renowned Aprilia Racing division. The M 1000 RR is today undoubtedly a motorcycle that can compete with the best of the best, already equipped with cutting-edge technology and a design that screams top shelf. It has enhanced electronics, a lightweight body, and a highly powered engine to fit the nasty streets of Macau.
According to my opinion, the BMW M 1000 RR was able to shine during the Macau Grand Prix. Unlike other bikes, the race had thrilling handling and power output that placed the bike as a worthy competitor for the race and actually held high speed on the sharp bends. However, much to the delight of potential buyers, the control, especially at aggressive settings, assured the bike-breaker part of the motorcycle that BMW’s engineers have produced a highly manageable motorcycle, albeit one that is best on-track.
However, the race was not only to win with a BMW M 1000 RR. During the race, there were several ramped-up forces, which took place with all the other superior motorcycles making full efforts to get the title. The level of competition seen in the Yamaha YZF-R1M, Ducati Panigale V4 R, and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R was something special, with each bike responding best to different areas of the track.
All in all, the BMW M 1000 RR began its competitive journey at Macau Grand Prix and has showcased excellent potential on one of the most challenging circuits across the globe. This is the start of a bright future for BMW Motorrad as they take performance in the world of motorcycle racing to the next level. As a true fan of motorcycles, I am eager to find out what shifts the future has in stock for the M 1000 RR and racing.
