2027 BMW X5 M60 Spied, Might Receive a V8
BMW is on a full swing with its latest SUV models, the German-based carmaker testing out a lot of new prototypes that will enter the market soon enough. One fine “stud” is the upcoming 2027 BMW X5 M60, recently caught on spy by photographers over bmwblog.com.
The model in question is a high-performance combustion SUV, and the full camouflage hides a couple of clues that indicate that we will be dealing with a powerful M Performance variant, supposing fitting a V8 engine under the hood, amongst other important updates.
Exterior
The fifth-generation X5, also known internally as G65, is believed to come with a performance-oriented setup, including quad exhaust tips and perforated brake pads. Despite the heavy disguise, we tend to believe that the new SUV will be more than a styling exercise.
Those elements strongly suggest this is more than a styling exercise. The overall design is said to take inspiration from BMW’s Neue Klasse approach, hinting at a cleaner and more forward-looking shape beneath the camo.
While the front end will keep the company’s latest aggressive and muscular design language, the rear is expected to offer multiple light signatures for the upcoming X5, including an “X”-shaped design. Another noteworthy move is BMW’s decision to drop the “i” badge from gasoline-powered models.
Interior
Even if we do not have the official images with the car’s interior, rumors have it that changes will be obvious, too. The 2027 BMW X5 M60i is expected to come with BMW’s new iDrive X system, hooked to a 17.9-inch central display.
Another part of the interior upgrade is the Panoramic Vision Display, which reinforces BMW’s shift towards a more digital-focused cockpit.
Spy images also reveal what looks like an additional screen on the passenger side. While this setup is not confirmed, it could indicate higher-end trims offering expanded display functionality and deeper digital integration. Overall, the interior direction mirrors Neue Klasse design cues that BMW plans to introduce across future models.
Complete Powertrain Information
Just like other upcoming models, the new 2027 BMW X5 M60 won’t disappoint in terms of performance. The prototype is equipped with an S68 unit. The unit is a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with at least 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. That is exactly what the rest of the M Performance lineup is offering at the moment, which suggests that the company is not making radical shifts in terms of engine setup and decides to keep the traditional combustion power as an important part of the lineup.
Production Timeline
The 2027 BMW X5 M60 is due to arrive this August, with an M Performance version following next year. According to internal sources, more details about the model’s release will surface next spring.
