F31 BMW 340i Touring with Remus Exhaust System [+VIDEO]

The model is the F31 generation of the BMW 3 Series Touring: a stylish yet performance-oriented wagon. One of the most desired models is the high-end 340i xDrive configuration, which comes with a potent B58 straight-six powerplant beneath the bonnet. As for the sound, it has a rather pleasant growling at low revs and a pretty good exhaust note for stock, but adding an aftermarket exhaust such as this Remus system puts the drama up a notch.

Performance

The BMW 340i Touring variant is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six which is good for 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That way, there’s no lack of grunt on tap. This BMW can actually accelerate rather well and it even sounds quite vocal in its standard tune. However, it goes increasingly out of control when a Remus rear silencer and center resonator are fitted. The Remus system aids in unleashing that inline-six roar, which is music to the ears of any petrolhead and, of course, my ears too.

The sound of the 340i was the best, and as a bystander, I found it fun to hear the car ‘breathing’ each time the accelerator was floored. The burbles and pops during the lift-off also provide a lot of dramatic auditory bonuses. In sum, the Remus system puts the pedal to the metal on an already lightning-fast family wagon; they must sound like a menacing lot!

Design

The F31 BMW 340i Touring has a stylish aerodynamic look tuned with BMW’s sporty aesthetics. The elongated bonnet, corona headlamp rings, kidney grille, and reverse L-shaped tail lamps lend it the BMW aesthetic appeal. One thing that I have a love for is the way that twin exhaust tips that come with the stock are well placed within the rear bumper.

In the Remus exhaust system, the twin exhaust layout is continued with two rectangular pipes having chrome tips. These factory tips, on the other hand, appear to protrude more and enhance the performance/sporty theme even more aesthetically. As far as I am concerned, they blend well with the 340i Touring concept which is relatively energetic and functional at the same time.

Wheels

When it comes to choosing a good looking alloy wheel, BMW does not lack here as there are many choices for 3 Series Touring. The 340i test car came with 19-inch Style 442 wheels which fit this athletic wagon perfectly to a T. To my mind, these multi-spoke alloys perfectly match the Limousine Grey exterior paint job, as you can see in the photos.

It is the same case with the tuning scene, where one can find many aftermarket wheels that could make the 340i Touring look aggressive. In the event that I would personally love to see this wagon with some serious rims ranging from 20-inch rims from HRE Wheels of Forgiato Designs. Well, that would surely add more drama and visual sense to it!

Conclusion

The F31-gen 340i Touring is one such model that offers the performance of an Autobahn stormer while packing the ability to transport the family and their stuff. With the Remus exhaust system installed, this practical BMW wagon rumbles like a beast the moment you step on the gas pedal. The change in the exhaust note adds a vibrant level of theatre, which is something that I fully endorse. Thus, if you like fast wagons and appreciate the melodies of pure straight-six monsters, the Remus fitted 340i Touring gets my vote!
