Spy Shots: 2027 BMW X1 Facelift Undergoes Snow Testing, Subtle Design Changes Announced
After recent prototypes of the new BMW X1 were tested in cold conditions, the model in question was recently spotted in Austria while performing new tests, the model wearing less camouflage, which indicates that it is getting closer to the finish line. From what we can see in the spy photos provided by bmwblog.com, we are dealing with a facelifted model of the X1, with changes around the body that appear revolutionary.
Exterior
Due to heavy camouflage, the updates around the body might be difficult to read. However, it does point out the modifications carried out around the front and rear. For instance, the headlights seem a bit revised, while the kidney grille is also going to be reshaped. The front bumper looks more sculpted. The overall impression is cleaner and more contemporary, though far from dramatic.
At the rear, things are less obvious. From the angles captured so far, the back of the vehicle doesn’t appear to receive the same level of attention. That may change as testing continues, but for now, the visual emphasis seems to sit firmly at the front.
Interior
If the exterior doesn’t bring many noticeable changes, inside is where the real magic happens. Spy images offer a partial view of the cabin and reveal BMW’s Panoramic Display, signaling a further push toward a more digital layout. The facelifted X1 is expected to feature a 17.9-inch central display, replacing the current wide screen. The display will be paired with the company’s latest infotainment system, called iDrive X. This is definitely a noticeable change, even if much of the surrounding cabin architecture seems familiar at first glance.
Complete Powertrain Information
No fresh news on the facelifted X1’s powertrain. However, the carmaker did release some important data on the upcoming iX1 electric. This particular model will receive a silicon carbide inverter, which would improve efficiency. That means up to 25 miles for both the eDrive20 and the xDrive30 versions.
Conclusion
BMW doesn’t stop here with testing out new models. The German-based carmaker is also in the works of the next-generation X1, internally known as NB5, which means new technology onboard and a total reworked design language, all part of the company’s future new platforms. This means around 40 new models planned by the end of 2027 alone, which is a really bold plan. And one of these models will be the future iX1 facelift, which will be released next year in July.
