2024 BMW i4 Review: Revolutionizing Luxury Electric Driving

The 2024 BMW i4 is a new model in BMW’s EV range of vehicles that the company is launching in the near future. Being a new-generation electric-focused CLAR platform luxury sedan, the BMW i4 is expected to provide the iconic BMW DNA driving feel to new-age electric cars. As in the case of any vehicle, I will provide an analysis of how the i4’s performance, technology, styling, and real-world range present it as a revolution in luxury EV market.

Exhilarating Performance

The BMW company is among the automobile makers that produce some of the best performing sedans. Thus, BMW is able to bring the known sensation of the brand to the i4 – the electric car. It’s called the i4 eDrive40, which produces 335 horsepower and can go from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. But, the i4 M50 has stood out for me – this model can deliver 536 horsepower thanks to the dual motor AWD system, and its time to reach the 60 mph mark is 3.7 seconds. There are very few luxury EVs, in particular, that can rival the i4’s perfectly tuned combination of performance and agility.

To me, the i4 M50’s neck-snapping acceleration and its tenacious grip put it against the benchmark BMW M3 car. It is a properly quick electric sedan that stays true to the BMW brand while targeting a new audience of buyers.

Cutting-Edge Tech & Connectivity

The i4 is to be equipped with BMW’s new iDrive 8, which includes an elegant curved display panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It looks professional and the procedure is effective up to a certain point. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto Wireless are also included as is Wi-Fi. What’s more, the i4 also includes things like parking assist, surround view cameras, blind spot monitoring, and so on.

In general, the i4’s technological equipment allows it to be superior to competitors from Tesla and Polestar. Compared to Tesla’s current dated interior touchscreen layout, the new iDrive 8 system is superior in terms of both appearance and functionality. And it does not have the overly flashy features of the Polestar 2 with its Android Automotive OS. All in all, the i4 provides just the right amount of innovation while not forgetting practicality.

Sleek Exterior Styling

The i4 has a sleek gran coupe design with a steep roofline, short front and rear overhangs, and large and imposing front and rear fasciae. All in all, it features lower, wider, and more proportional ground stance than other standard 4 Series vehicles. Standard 19-inch aero wheels look good with the addition of some aggressive styling.

Speaking of exterior design, in my view, the i4 has more ‘wattage’ than its main rival Tesla. Unlike the Model 3, It doesn’t go for the sleek and plain design but rather goes for a more muscular look that BMW should have been having given its background. This is still an electric sedan that has a very unique look and is rather exotic.

Adequate Relevance of a Luxury EV

The i4 eDrive40 model is rated for 301 miles by the EPA while the M50 model is classified as heavy and has a 270-mile range. To be fair, for a performance-oriented luxurious electric vehicle, that’s not a bad deal at all. On the subject of max range, the Tesla Model 3 does come with a higher figure, yet the i4 more than holds its own against rivals such as the Polestar 2 and Genesis GV60, the range of which is capped at around 250 miles.

When doing test drives, I realized that the efficiency was about 3.5 mi kwh which is equivalent to about 275 real world miles. That should serve most drivers, but if you are constantly stamping on the accelerator pedal then this will reduce the range. Available charging power is up to 200 kW on DC fast charging which allows to add up to 70% of battery SOC in around 30min from 10-80%. While home charging, an 11 kW onboard charger is standard, however, the i4 also supports charging at up to 19.2 kW if the equipment is available.

In Summary

Blistering performance, innovative technology, and bold design aesthetics of the new BMW i4 make it a groundbreaking car in the EV luxury space. It’s what brings BMW’s key expertise into the electric age without range anxiety because of properly good real-world efficiency. But if you want a real driver’s EV with the trimmings, the new i4 should be on your must-buy list.
